How website migrations used to work
The previous process of website migration involved a manual approach. It required locating your website files and downloading them to your local computer.
The same process applied to databases using tools like phpMyAdmin to ensure all data and content were obtained.
Afterward, the files needed to be uploaded to the new hosting provider using their file manager or FTP software like FileZilla.
Importing the databases and ensuring the proper setup of the website's engine (e.g., WordPress core) on the new webspace was also necessary. Additionally, email settings had to be changed to avoid any disruption in access to emails when transitioning from the previous host.
This method was not only time-consuming but also susceptible to errors or file corruption. Although there were plugins available for popular CMS platforms like WordPress to simplify the process, it still posed certain challenges.
However, with our 20i Migration Centre, all these steps are now automated, eliminating the risk of data loss or downtime.
Yes, we may need to log into your old account to obtain some settings.
It depends on the size of your website but about 30 minutes
The simple answer is that nothing can go wrong. No files at your current host are deleted in the process of transferring your website. So, even in the extremely unlikely event that something happened, you can always try again, and/or contact our team.
The migration process will never cause downtime: your site will remain live on your previous hosting until you’re happy with your newly migrated site.
